Collie Motorplex attracts Dragstrip Funding
Motoring South West manager Simon Sterner said the completed drag strip would put Collie on the map.“We had a pre-election promise from the Barnett Government for about $1.67 million towards the full development of the drag strip based on an overall project expected to be valued at around $6 million,” he said, “To undertake this project properly, we need a full feasibility study and survey of the area to ensure that it is done right the first time. “This will ensure that contractors and associated service providers of the proposed development will have the correct detail and information on which to provide their estimates – so this is stage one.” Mr Sterner said while the proposed development of the drag strip has been part of long term plans for the overall development of the Collie Motorplex since 2002 is has, due to lack of funds, only been suitable for club level events. “Once completed the 1/8 mile drag strip will be in accordance with Australian National Drag Racing Association (ANDRA) standards and will be suitable for National Level events. “It will be the second drag strip in WA and the first in a regional area.” |
